Brek was formed in 2018 by Harpa Þorvaldsdóttir singer / pianist
and Jóhann Ingi Benediktsson singer / guitarist together with
Guðmundur Atli Pétursson mandolin player.
The double bass player Sigmar Þór Matthíasson joined the band in early 2020.
Brek released their first album in June 2021.
The album won folk album of the year
at the Icelandic Music Awards 2022.
